Where to find Italy's Blue Flag beaches in 2025

Number of Bandiera Blu beaches in Italy rises with 15 new entries in 2025.

A total of 487 beaches in 246 resorts have been awarded the 2025 Bandiera Blu (Blue Flag) status for excellent water quality and high environmental standards.

The prestigious recognition, up from the 485 beaches in 236 resorts last year, is awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE).

There were 15 Italian new-entry beaches in 2025 however five resorts lost their Blue Flag status.

The Italian region with the highest number of Bandiera Blu beach resorts is Liguria, once again in the top spot with 33 resorts, despite losing one (Ceriale).

Puglia is in second place with 27 Bandiera Blu resorts, up three from last year.

In third place with 23 Bandiera Blu recognitions is Calabria, with the addition of three new blue flags, followed by Campania and Le Marche with 20 blue flag resorts each, then Tuscany (19), Sardinia and Abruzzo (16 each).

The 15 new entries on Italy's Blue Flag beach list for 2025 are: Torino di Sangro (Abruzzo); Cariati, Corigliano Rossano and Cropani (Calabria); Sapri (Campania); Cattolica (Emilia Romagna); Formia (Lazio); Campofilone (Marche); Castrignano del Capo, Margherita di Savoia, Pulsano (Puglia); San Teodoro (Sardinia); Messina and Nizza di Sicilia (Sicily) and Marciana Marina on the island of Elba (Tuscany).

Piemonte, the region around Turin, has four Bandiera Blu beaches - Cannobio, Cannero Riviera, Verbania and Gozzano - while Lombardia, whose capital is Milan, has three: Toscolano Maderno, Gardone Riviera and Sirmione.

Lazio, the region around Rome, was awarded 11 Blue Flag beaches in 2025: Trevignano Romano, Anzio, Latina, Sabaudia, San Felice Circeo, Terracina, Fondi, Sperlonga, Gaeta, Formia and Minturno.

The number of Blue Flag resorts awarded to regions elsewhere in Italy are as follows: Trentino-Alto Adige (12), Emilia-Romagna (10), Veneto (9), Basilicata (5), Molise (2) and Friuli Venezia Giulia (2).
